Eye Conditions
The eyes are unique specialised structures which can be affected by many disease processes. Some ocular diseases eg macular degeneration, glaucoma tend not be associated with other general health problems. Other conditions eg diabetes, hyperthyroidism, hypertension often affect the eyes and may even first be detected because of changes at the back of the eyes.
Mr Michael Wearne, at the Eastbourne Eye Clinic, trained for 19yrs before becoming a consultant ophthalmologist in March 2000. He is almost unique having gained a 1st class degree in Ophthalmic Optics and then trained as an optometrist prior to studying medicine and becoming an eye surgeon. Having multiple qualifications has provided him with the expertise to advise and treat a variety of ocular abnormalities.
